He will cover you with his feathers.
He will shelter you with his wings.
His faithful promises are your armor and protection.
Psalm 91:4 NLT
We all have days when we could use some shelter. Maybe you just saw a picture of yourself at your kids’ school’s 80’s auction and realized maybe that wasn’t the best choice of costume. Or, maybe that’s just me today. Maybe you’re sitting in a hospital room, helpless. Maybe you’re just feeling like you need an an extra layer of protection before you head out into a world that doesn’t explain, doesn’t include, forgets, runs late and forgets to call. Maybe you just need someone to put their arms around you and tell you, You know? I think you’re great, kid.
I need that, on more days that I can admit, so badly for one moment today I almost face-planted in the left-over chocolate pie. But the pie won’t fill me; and some body’s words or arms or approval will fade in a moment. It’s in my Father’s cover that I find true refuge . . . even if it is from my own silly, insecure, love-needy heart.
Father, we give you this week. It’s cold outside, and the demands don’t seem to end. As the holidays loom and our to-do’s grow, help us to run to your shelter every time we feel less-than. Help us to venture out in the world clothed in your promises and warmed by your love. Amen.
Have a restful week hiding beneath His wings.
