Though the Lord may give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your Teacher will not hide himself any more, but your eyes shall see your Teacher. And when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left, your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”
For many, listening to God falls under the same category as Ouji boards and seances. But I’m not talking about conjuring up a ghost or lighting candles or anything weird. I’m talking about that little Voice deep in your heart that’s always trying to talk to you. Do you hear it?
Have you spent a long time ignoring that Voice, possibly because it’s telling you to do an about-face in your life and walk an unfamiliar path?
For me, that Voice often pushes me in directions I would never venture by myself. It also tells me to say “no” when I would normally say “yes”. This Voice doesn’t people-please. He never holds me to a perfectionist standard. He never asks me to perform at the expense of my health or my roles of wife and mother. This Voice is always interested in my best good, directing my steps toward His plan for my life. And yet, the more I listen to Him, the more at peace I become. The more I follow the unfamiliar, uncomfortable Way, the more my life settles into peace.
How do you know if it’s Him? Ask Him, and He’ll make it plain. He won’t give up on You. He’ll keep whispering until You listen. Most importantly: He will always echo the words of Jesus.
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you.
The way is plain, friend. You have an Advocate constantly helping you find your path. Let’s walk in His way together.
God bless your week!
